About Nerve Atrophy

Optic nerve atrophy is defined as nerve damage that predisposes to degeneration or destruction of the optic nerve. It can be caused by vascular disorders secondary to retinal degeneration, metabolic diseases, accidents, glaucoma, or toxicity; it has even been reported to be associated with vitamin B12 deficiency. Optic nerve atrophy is characterized by a decrease in visual acuity, a lessening of pupillary contraction, and pallor in the optical disc.

Traditionally it’s believed that the optic nerve is not capable of regeneration. For that reason, when referring to optic nerve atrophy in general, we are dealing with a severe disorder.

Symptoms of Optic Nerve Atrophy

Optic nerve atrophy causes vision to dim and reduces the field of vision. The ability to see fine detail will also be lost. Colors will seem faded. Over time, the pupil will be less able to react to light, and eventually, its ability to react to light may be lost.

Tests will be conducted and a complete eye exam is required to look for the condition. The exam will include tests of:

• Color vision
• Pupil light reflex
• Tonometry
• Visual acuity

Applied preparation based on stem cells contains millions of stem cells of natural origin, these stem cells are precursor cells of neurons that build the nerve endings, including the optic nerve. After being injected, stem cells form stable pools of stem cells that constantly produce offspring and are able within a year and a half to supply the body with neuronal progenitor cells.

Our treatment has resulted in the restoration of the optic nerve, we did not get positive results in complete atrophy of the optic nerve, but if even a small part of non-atrophied nerve fibers remained, we observed successful vision recovery.

In many severe pathologies and severe atrophy, positive results are achieved longer. If the treatment was started in the early stages of optic nerve atrophy, we observed fairly rapid progress in restoring vision.

Treatment is easily tolerated by the patients and has no side effects.
